I meant to write something for the blog last night, but ended up in front of the TV watching a live video feed showing the fires started by a gas main explosion in a suburb down the road. The horror of the incineration of a neighborhood was unfathomable.

"The San Francisco Chronicle will have more details." Dream on. PG&E's infrastructure seems to be falling apart in front of our eyes and the last thing that newspaper will be doing is an in-depth study of the how and why. Neither will the local TV news stations, which I was also glued to last night. Their helicopter shots were amazing, while their commentary was mostly ridiculous and cliche-ridden.

ReplyDeleteThe story will go on and the litigation and the pain. And we'll dread our failing infrastructure. It reminds me of the evening a few years back when I got an email out of the blue from a Minneapolis friend: "I'm okay -- I was already across the bridge." That's how I learned a major cross-Mississippi bridge had just fallen in...
