San Francisco District Attorney George Gascon announced this afternoon what always seemed likely: if police officers can claim that they think they are in danger, or perhaps someone else is in danger, they can shoot a man six times in the back. Officers Eric Reboli and Craig Tiffe face no penalty for killing Guatemalan immigrant Amilcar Perez Lopez on Folsom Street two years ago. A man is dead. This is the law.
This outcome doesn't speak well for the law. Or for justice.
Or for Gascon and the rest of the traditionally, institutionally corrupt public safety unions in San Francisco.
