It will be interesting to see how the next two years play out. Identity politics has become a bigger deal to dems than repubs. This might be a chance to see how it actually works out where it comes to problem solving. I've never voted that way as i am issue driven, but I've heard the arguments, by candidates, in favor of it.
I should have added-- although the way identity politics is used today to represent 'diversity' it could be seen that repubs vote primarily white male for the same reason-- i.e. those who they are used to seeing in power make them more comfortable.
