The blessing of the beasts

On the feast of St. Francis (October 4), in the city of St. Francis, about 40 pets and some 75 people were well and truly blessed last night at the Episcopal Church of St. John the Evangelist in the Mission district.

Even rats can be loved.

There was even a gecko -- "Scout" -- who was molting.

People and pets seemed to have a great time.

  1. Jan, these pictures are wonderful. Wow! Rats and a gecko!

My church is named St. John the Evangelist, too. We call it St. John's for short.

  3. That is the gayest thing I've ever seen. Happy St. Francis Feast day.

  4. No cats? Perhaps they're already blessed.

  5. Yes Betty -- I suspect that cats are already blessed or at least doubtful that they require any such attention for any outside Source. In any case, they would have hated being around all those dogs. We have had cats in the past, caged cats.
