Watching the Prez approach the end of his administration, you get the sense that he entered office as the last true believer in the myth of a predominantly benevolent, democratic (small "d"), nation ruled more by considered law than by avaricious interests and irrational passions. He's had quite an education.
We've all had an education. So do we accept it as it is-- or... Is there an or????
ReplyDeleteFor me, in the arena of electoral politics, 2016 will be about getting Hillary elected, obviously, but also replacing enough Republicans to give Dems a Senate majority. The structure of the election -- the particular states in play -- makes that doable, while the House is probably out of reach at least until after 2020. Hillary will be a much better president with a Democratic Senate.
ReplyDeleteSo much for the inside prong of any progressive strategy. The outside prong has to consist of making our rulers respond as we can ... as they are finding they must to calls for police accountability, for example. From the outside, we have to push wherever critical mass assembles.
All that is emotionally exhausting, but necessary.
My favorite political pragmatist...
