I wasn't sure this was real, but best I can discover, it is. The United Methodist Building is the only non-governmental structure on Capital Hill in DC. An earlier iteration of the sign read "I was a stranger and you ripped my child from me ... wait a second ..." according to
The Hill.
Funny. You did read that Obama's administration did it over 60 times to control when the border was rushed but guess that was religiously okay lol
ReplyDeleteOff topic, but I wanted to note that tonight is the first anniversary of Marianna's passing.
ReplyDeleteRain: there is no question that the Obama administration failed to find an answer to the festering failure of this country to come to terms with the realities of millions of human beings whose humanity has been denied by a system which likes their labor and refuses to make them citizens. But those failures are very different from cruelty as policy, from encouraging intentional abuse, from licensing enforcers to act out their worst impulses. The Border Patrol Union showed what they wanted when they endorsed Trump; they are unleashed -- and just as frustrated and angry as ever because force can't solve the intractable problem of desperate people arriving on our doorsteps. The case of the Mexican kid shot by a Border Patrol officer that I wrote about the other day happened under Obama. The situation is rotten -- but our leaders can make it better or make it worse. Trump pretty much announces he hopes to make it worse.
ReplyDeleteBrandon: yes -- I was thinking bout Marianna today. I miss her.
well, I have said before, Jan, that the answer is better embassy responses in their countries where the genuine asylum seekers can apply close to home and then we provide the transportation. It'd be kinder and more effective (also cheaper but would cut out those like Pueblos Sin Fronteras from their donations). Also a merit based legal system could bring in agriculture/construction/etc. workers with a green card and path to citizenship, which if we ever control the border should let those here, who have led responsible lives, also get legalized. No more shadow population to benefit those who like cheaper labor.
ReplyDeleteSome want us to donate for jobs down there but how would that solve corrupt governments? I feel sorry for those born into such places. Maybe, if karma and reincarnation are true, we all have our times not so good and better. The bad part with our current illegal caravans is it might be taking the very ones who could fix those countries. The problem is how do you get companies to go into places where the left is saying are dangerous and unfair to any living there? How do you impact sovereign nations? Obviously the billions we send in aid now aren't helping. What would.
In the last year I've seen several online friends die, who I didn't know for real but felt I did through the internet. It's made me think about my own future demise and how to prepare for it in terms materially at least.
