Dickhead of the week

Mr. Dickhead has been in temporary retirement around here for too long. It is time to pull him out again as Kentucky Senator Rand Paul is trying to reinvigorate his sagging presidential campaign by going after Planned Parenthood's funding for women's health. Like all the Republican clowns, he's latched on to some hoax videos claiming to show that PP sells fetal tissue for research. (They don't, but if women are willing to donate, they will pass such material on, at their cost, to scientific labs.)

According to Reuters, Paul

plans to push Congress to cut federal funding for the non-profit reproductive healthcare organization Planned Parenthood in a debate over its treatment of aborted fetal tissue. ... Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has started a fast-track process to bring Paul's legislation for a vote soon, McConnell's spokesman told Reuters on Sunday.

...Paul has urged cutting the nearly $500 million in annual taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood in the latest Republican effort to limit government support of the group over its abortion services.

... Abortions comprise 3 percent of Planned Parenthood's health services, according to the organization's website. About 40 percent of the non-profit's funding comes from government sources, including Medicaid managed-care plans.

Planned Parenthood is the medical provider of last resort for millions of women who fall through the cracks of our crazy quilt healthcare system.

Paul doesn't give a damn about them. He just wants to strut his stuff for the crazy Republican electorate that wants to force unready women to bear (and care for) unwanted children.

Paul has betrayed his father's worthwhile antiwar ideology so many times he isn't worth defending. But when you use such terminology as "unready" it actually makes him look good by comparison. And there are plenty of conservative socialists and libertarians who would agree.

With Trump out there, Repubs are in a contest for who can be the most disgusting. Every day a new contender arises.

What is the most disgusting thing Trump has said? To me, it's his fearmongering opposition to the Iranian peace deal. His ratings among vets increased since the McCain criticism. As far as Obama, it's disgusting that he chooses to shove his decadent Western imperialist gender universalism on Kenya vis a vis their traditions. Hillary was dangerously disgusting when she compared Putin to Hitler and when she took delight in helping kill Khadaffi and thus turning Libya over to anarchial jihadists.

A lot of Republicans like Trump for the very things he says that someone like me is gagging when I read. Of course, I also don't like Hillary; so it's not going to be a fun year for voting like some where I have a candidate I can happily support. Maybe a wonderful candidate will arise and change it all for those like me who are in the middle.

To me one of the more interesting things will be how Bernie stands up to his new found popularity and rising in the polls. Will he stay with his beliefs (as he always has) or will fear of losing the crowds cause him to play to the media and the masses? I like him and he has many positions I favor but he's far left for me. However, if he's still out there when it gets to Oregon, I'll vote for him in the primary. Voting for Hillary will require holding my nose but there is no Republican I can imagine voting for with the current crowd.

I think this year that a lot of people won't vote at all, but many others will vote third party.
