Season creep at Costco

Apparently we're skipping right over Halloween and Thanksgiving this year. I'm not ready.

Another reason not to set foot in a big box store, as if I needed another one. I know Costco actually pays their workers decently, but no matter. Places like that give me agoraphobia and make me want to take monastic vows just to get away from the World of Consumption.

Mike, I'm going to disagree with you on this one. I love Costco -- it is pretty much the only place I shop besides our local fruit and veg market and the local weekly farmers market, both within a block.

Costco has the most pleasantly diverse set of customers and workers I encounter anywhere. When I researched sustainable fish, it is the best local option according to the Monterey Aquarium. (Yeah, I know, there may not be any such thing, but apparently Costco tries.) Costco has great fruit and veggies, if you pay attention.

I love the little tasting stations they set up to try to hook us on various foods -- I'll eat a mouthful, but I've never bought any. What seems to be happening is that they are introducing their various customer bases to different possible foods they might try -- it's fun to see east Asians considering spaghetti or some of us trying kimchi.

Oh, and if you need working class clothes, they are cheaper and just as good as any other option.
