Why?

It would be nice to live in a world in which maleness and femaleness were firm and unwavering poles.

I cannot urge you strongly enough to read this remarkable New York Times oped.

A transgender Brasilian woman falls to the ground, interrupting a protest march. The sign on her body reads, “Discrimination kills in every place on earth. To respect sexual diversity is also possible.” After a moment, she runs off to “die” someplace else along the march. Photo by Tarso Ramos at the World Social Forum, 2003 by way of the Western States Center.

"For every girl who is tired of acting weak when she is strong, there is a boy tired of appearing strong when he feels vulnerable" is the beginning of a poster from www.crimethinc.com. View the poster at http://www.crimethinc.com/tools/posters/gender_subversion_front.pdf

The poster does not specifically speak to transgender concerns, but does address janinsanfran's comment that "it would be nice to live in a world in which maleness and femaleness were firm and unwavering poles."

(Janinsanfran: can't find the directions on how to include a URL. Perhaps you can fix this for me. Thanks.)
