From the hood: 'nature red in tooth and claw"

A few feathers were the first sign of something out of the ordinary. We usually have nothing more than an excess of impossible-to-eradicate oxalis.

These outliers were soon joined by far more in the driveway.

Ah yes, there's a hawk in the tree.

A pigeon made a nice meal for the better part of an afternoon.

In his hunting days, our late cat Fred liked to catch and eat doves. Like just about every creature here, they are introduced. I guess pigeons are not California natives either!
More upsetting if it's native birds.
