The limits of a victim narrative
Bush is in Israel today, celebrating that country's 60 years. Soft spoken Tony Judt asks, how long will U.S. support for Israel last? Loads slowly, but worth viewing.
Yes -- I found this terribly chilling, so much so that I hesitated to post it. But he's really saying what friends, Jewish and Arab, have been saying for 20 years. Israel's failure to make itself into a responsible, law-abiding state threatens its very survival. And that's awful -- and nonetheless true.

Tony Karon has a recent post along the same lines, though he doesn't pose the possible future quite so chillingly.
